Child Advocacy Network of Disability Organizations (CAN DO) in association with VFM has launched a radio show – “Oagaatherikamaa eku”. The programme will be aired every Wednesday night from 9 to 10 PM for a duration of three months on VFM 99 megahertz.

 CAN DO believes that raising awareness is an important tool in the fight for the rights of children with disabilities. The daily challenges faced by children with disabilities, their aspirations and their potential are important stories that need to be shared by the mainstream media in a systematic manner.

CAN DO’s new radio show exclusively on the rights of children with disabilities is designed to to raise public awareness and provide information relevant to families of children with disabilities. The interactive programme provides an opportunity for listeners to pose questions for participating guests and each episode will be based on a theme relevant for children with disabilities. Each programme will also feature the story of a child with disability, with interviews from parents and teachers. The inaugural show to be aired tonight (13 August 2014) will focus on the access to education for children with disabilities.

Child Advocacy Network of Disability Organizations (CAN DO) is a network established by ARC to protect and promote the rights and wellbeing of children with disabilities. Founding members of CAN DO include Advocating the Rights of Children (ARC), Association for Disability and Development (ADD), Beautiful Eyes Down Syndrome Association, Blind and Visually Impaired Association of Maldives, Care Society, Maldives Autism Association, Maldives Deaf Association (MDA) and Maldives Association of Physical Disables (MAPD).
