Opportunity to Participate in ARCs Photography Competition

ARC invites the public to participate in our “The Rights of Children Photography Competition 2014”. The objective of this competition is to raise awareness on the rights of children as per the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC). Twelve photographs, one for each topic, will be selected and used in the design of ARC’s official calendar for the year 2015. Winners will be announced on Universal Children’s Day, the 20th of November, 2014, following an exhibition of selected photographs. The calendar will be launched on International Human Rights Day, the 10th of December, 2014. All proceeds from the calendar sales will be used to fund ARC’s H.O.P.E. Campaign against Child Abuse. Topics Every child has the right to relax, play and make friends with other children Every child has the right to special help, if they have been hurt, neglected or badly treated Every child has the right to special help or care if they have any kind of disability Every child has the right to good healthcare, nutritious food and clean water Every child has the right to the best care possible, if they are adopted or in foster care Every child has the right to be protected from dangerous drugs and their trade Every child has the right to an education that develops their personality and abilities Every child has the right to be protected from being taken advantage of, or exploited in any way Every child has the right to express their opinions and be listened to, on matters that concern them Every child has the right to be treated equally and fairly and have their rights respected Every child has the right to feel safe and be protected from abuse or neglect Every child has the right to survive, grow up healthy and live a full life Competition Guideline The competition is open to photographers of all ages. The competition will not distinguish between professionals and non-professionals. Please follow the guidelines below when submitting photos: Photos should be high-resolution digital images – we cannot print scans, stills captured from video (even high-definition video), or photos taken from social media sites such as Facebook. Please be aware that photos that look good on a computer screen may not be suitable for print purposes. Images should be at least 300 pixels per inch at a minimum size of 12” X 15” (3,600 x 4,500 pixels), in landscape orientation. Most photos that meet our requirements are 4MB or more in size. Photos should not have copyright information or watermarks superimposed on the images themselves. Photographs should be in JPG/JPEG format An individual may submit up to 5 photographs, provided that each submission reflects a different topic All photographs must reflect Maldivian children, families, or people. The photographs must not contain obscene, provocative, defamatory, sexually explicit, or otherwise objectionable or inappropriate content. Photographs deemed inappropriate will be disqualified. When taking the photographs of people, please make sure you have their consent, or the consent of a parent/guardian when photographing children under the age of 18. Additionally, do not act in any manner that may violate any human or child rights. Photos should be exclusive to ARC print publications. ARC reserves the right to post the submitted material on ARC’s website or social media platforms as well as redistribute the material in its final, laid-out form for reprint requests. Include the photographer’s name, contact information, where and when the photo was taken, as well as any interesting information about the picture in the email. Instructions for naming your files: lastname-firstname_topicnumber.jpg We cannot use negatives, slides or photographic prints. Judging Criteria Entries will be judged for originality and relevance of the photograph with respect to the specified list of topics by a panel of judges. Usage Rights Entrants agree to grant ARC permission to use the work for promotional purposes on the website, social media and any publications. In each publication, the photographer’s name will be listed. DEADLINE FOR SUBMISSION: OCTOBER 20TH, 2014 AT 11:59 PM.
