DMRR 2015 helps raise funds for ARCs HOPE Campaign against child abuseAdvocating the Rights of Children (ARC) wishes to express sincere appreciation to Dhiraagu for dedicating the Dhiraagu Maldives Road Race towards Child Protection for the fifth consecutive year. ARC wishes to thank all the runners who chose ARC as their NGO for the race and for dedicating their run for child abuse prevention. ARC is honoured that over 780 participants ran for ARC at this years road race, making ARC the most highly represented NGO at DMRR 2015.

ARC expresses gratitude for generous donation by Football Association of Maldives (FAM)Football Association of Maldives (FAM) has donated MRF 50,000- to ARC from the proceeds of ticket sales for the Peoples Cup final match between Maziya Sports and Recreation Club and PDRM of Malaysia held on 28 January 2015.The funds will be utilized for our HOPE Campaign against Child Abuse, under which ARC will conduct awareness raising activities in Male and the atolls, targeted at parents and teachers, as well as empowering children against abuse.

ARC Condemns Child Abuse Case Leading to Death in V. RakeedhooAdvocating the Rights of the Child (ARC) condemns in the strongest terms the recent case of child abuse, resulting in the passing away of a three year old boy in Vaavu Rakeedhoo. ARC strongly urges the Government to conduct an assessment of the States capacity to respond and react to cases of abuse with a specific view to enhance the child protection system by providing sufficient resources to Family and Children Service Centres (FCSC) in the Atolls, and to establish an effective monitoring mechanism to ensure the safety of children who are removed from their home environment. ARC reiterates its commitment to continue its efforts to work with relevant actors by conducting advocacy and outreach,and hold the government to account with a view to safeguard the rights of all Maldivian children.

Launch of ARCs Rights of Children Calendar 2015Advocating the Rights of Children (ARC) has launched the Rights of Children Calendar 2015. The calendar features the twelve winning photographs from ARCs Rights of Children Photography Competition held from August to October 2014. ARC hopes this calendar will portray, in a Maldivian setting, internationally recognized rights of children guaranteed to each and every child under the Convention on the Rights of the Child, which was signed by the Maldives over 24 years ago.

The overarching intent of the ARC team was to bring attention to the plight of abused children and the onus on society to bring it to an end. Universal Childrens DayToday, twenty-five years after the Convention on the Rights of the Child was embraced by the international community, significant steps still need to be taken nationally to ensure that our commitment to the protection the rights of the child are concrete. On this important occasion, ARC would like to reinforce the message that the world has made a solemn vow to children when all countries, including the Maldives, embraced the Declaration of the Rights of the Child. It is a promise that we must do all in our power to promote the rights of children to survive and thrive, to learn and grow, to make their voices heard and to reach their full potential.

Opportunity to Participate in ARCs Photography CompetitionARC invites the public to participate in our The Rights of Children Photography Competition 2014.The objective of this competition is to raise awareness on the rights of children as per the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC).Twelve photographs, one for each topic, will be selected and used in the design of ARCs official calendar for the year 2015. Winners will be announced on Universal Childrens Day, the 20th of November, 2014, following an exhibition of selected photographs. All proceeds from the calendar sales will be used to fund ARCs H.O.P.E. Campaign against Child Abuse.

ARC's HOPE Campaign benefits from Road RaceAdvocating the Rights of Children (ARC) has worked as a social partner for the Dhiraagu Maldives Road Race from 2011-2013, dedicated to the prevention of child abuse. The Road Race is participated by thousands of people from various walks of life, brought together for a worthy cause and in support of the work done by NGOs to combat social issues. ARC praises the efforts of over 70 individual runners and members of various institutions of Maldives who participated in this years road race on behalf of ARC and helped raise awareness and funds for ARCs HOPE Campaign against Child Abuse.
