Advocating the Rights of Children (ARC) has today launched a child-friendly educational storybook titled ‘Boss of My Body’ to mark the World Day for Prevention of Child Abuse. This book, developed in partnership with UNICEF Maldives, was formally launched by First Lady Fazna Ahmed during a special event held this morning at Hulhumale’ Foiy Gaadiya.
The book, available in both Dhivehi and English, is targeted for the ages of four and above, and includes various important topics to help protect children from harm. While facilitating a book reading for the children present at the event, First Lady Fazna Ahmed highlighted the importance of such as book and emphasized the need to empower children against abuse.
ARC’s Executive Director Zeena Zahid expressed hope that this book will be useful to guide early conversations between parents and children about safe and unsafe touches. ARC has been working in the area of child abuse prevention since 2010, with the launching of HOPE Campaign which promotes raising awareness, recognizing signs, reporting abuse and reaching out.
Speaking at the event, UNICEF Country Representative Ms. Marjan Montazemi highlighted the need to develop more educational tools such as this to help create safe environments for children. ARC wishes to thank First Lady Fazna Ahmed and UNICEF Maldives for their support and reaffirms its commitment to protect and promote the rights of children throughout the country.
